How do you make the excitement of pure adrenaline
and unwavering determination the most spectacular thing to witness?

Challenge

The Vans U.S. Open of Surfing is a highly anticipated, annual event that brings in a crowd of devoted fans and curious spectators. My task was to create an ad campaign that captures the essence of being in the zone when surfing.

Solution

Inspired by images of Huntington Beach at sunset, I put together a color palette that makes the ad feel serene. I used a gradient of sunset colors for the title. And then, in the middle of the serenity, I put in a black and white image of a surfer in the zone. I used circular shapes to highlight elements in the ad and to enhance the feeling of the surfer being in his own space.
