How do you paint a picture of a quirky, independent,
and oh so fearless, teenage girl?
Challenge
The task was to create a visually engaging key art piece along with a series of vertical and horizontal artwork and billboards for the Netflix series, Wednesday.
Wednesday is a Netflix streaming series directed by Timothy Burton. It follows the life of Wednesday Addams of the Addams family through her years as a student at Nevermore Academy. She attempts to control her emerging psychic abilities while trying to stop a serial killer and solve a mystery that embroiled her parents.
The series was created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, and stars Jenna Ortega, Hunter Doohan, and Percy Hynes White.
Solution
For the key art piece, I played on the idea that Wednesday Addams abhors color, preferring to wear mainly black and white outfits. I created a black and white half tone of her image and overlayed it with the color version of her image, allowing her favorite shade of red lipstick to pop. For the remainder of the artwork, I chose to be creative with some of the pieces by using paint effects; and for the rest, I manipulated screenshots from the series for the billboards and horizontal artwork.
